Instructions for the authors of the papers presented at the XI Portuguese Congress of Sociology for publication

Please use the template you find here.

Download this document and record it with the identification number "XI-APS-...." that was attributed to your Paper and that you can find in the Program or in your reserved area on the platform of the XI Congress. For example, if the ID number of your Paper is 1111 the file name you send should be "XI-APS-1111".

Submit your text in your reserved area on the platform of the XIth Portuguese Congress of Sociology website by logging in with your access data.

Deadline for sending the text: June 21, 2021.


The acceptance of the abstract and the presentation of the paper in the XIth Congress does not guarantee the publication of the final text in the Annals of the Congress.

The text, abstract and keywords may be in Portuguese, Spanish, English or French.

The texts will be submitted to a process of evaluation and selection by the current coordinators of the thematic sections / areas in collaboration with the new coordinators who, in the meantime, will be elected for the Thematic Sections after the Congress.

The coordinators of the thematic sections/areas will select the best texts of their areas to integrate a special thematic number of the journal SOCIOLOGIA ON LINE, should the authors agree.

In the evaluation process, the following criteria 1 to 13 will be used. Additional criteria for inclusion in the special number can be found at the end of this document (criteria 14 to 16).

1 - All articles will be subjected to a system of detection of plagiarism. The latter will impede its publication, as well as any other publication during a period of time to be established by the APS Executive Committee;

2 - Articles should be sent in a Word file with the text in 12-point Times New Roman and 1,5 line spacing. Authors are responsible for the grammatical and syntactical revision of the articles;

3 - Articles should not exceed 9000 words, including final notes and references. The texts of reflection and essays should not exceed 6000 words;

4 - Authors are encouraged to use the following general structure for their articles: Introduction; Theoretical framework; Methodology; Results; Conclusions; Acknowledgments (optional); Notes (optional); References;

5 - The notes must be in small number and presented in body 10. Their numbering will be continuous, from the beginning to the end of the article, and will be placed at the end of the text, just before the "References";

6 - Texts written in Portuguese should include a final note explaining whether the author uses the new spelling agreement;

7 - The non-textual elements in the articles should be organized in tables and figures, identified with continuous Arabic numerals. The texts can have a maximum of 6 tables and 6 figures. Table titles should be presented in 12-point Times New Roman; bold and centered. There should still be a space between the text and the title of the table or figure and a space between the title and the corresponding table or figure. Tables/figures must be kept in one sheet;

8 - Non-textual elements should be sent in a separate file, to atas.xicongresso.sociologia@gmail.com, in their original format (Excel, SPSS, others) or in one of the following formats:

EPS (or PDF): Vector drawings;

TIFF (or JPG): Color or grayscale images: 300 dpi minimum resolution;

The name of these files must contain the identification of the paper and of the element itself (table, figure, etc.), for example "XI-APS-111_tab1".

9 - Articles must present a title; a summary of 150 words and 4 keywords;

10 - Authors must specify the following information regarding their affiliations: institution discriminated at three levels (e.g., University, School, Department or Research Unit); Postal Code; City; Country and e-mail address. The correspondence author must present the complete institutional address;

11 - If the manuscripts include a section of “Acknowledgments”, this should be included after the “Conclusions” and before “Notes” and “References”;

12 - Citations, in-text references and final references must comply the APA 6th Edition standards;

13 - The Associação Portuguesa de Sociologia retains copyright of all published manuscripts. All texts will be available at the APS website.

Additional criteria for texts to be included in the thematic number of SOCIOLOGIA ON LINE. These criteria should only be considered after selection of the best texts by the coordinators of the thematic sections/areas. The journal’s editorial team will monitor the entire publication and review process.

14 - SOCIOLOGIA ON LINE publishes original research on Social Sciences that was not previously published or that is not being considered for publication elsewhere;

15 - Manuscripts will be independently evaluated by at least two experts. The Journal uses a double-blind peer review system, which means that the identities of the authors are concealed from the reviewers, and vice versa. The Direction of SOCIOLOGIA ON LINE is responsible for the review process and final publication decision;

16 - All manuscripts must present a title in Portuguese and a title in English. In addition, all articles must present a summary of 150 words in Portuguese and a summary of 150 words in English This abstract should include a brief introduction to the study and its theoretical and methodological approaches; the major results; conclusion and the relevance. In addition, 4 keywords in Portuguese and 4 keywords in English must be provided. Articles written in languages other than the previous ones, should also present a title, abstract and keywords in the original language of the text.
