Joao Filipe Marques holds a Degree and a MA in Social Anthropology and a PhD in Sociology by the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales of Paris. He is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Algarve and integrated researcher at the Research Centre onTurism, Sustainability and Wellbeing (CinTurs – UAlg). Currently he is the Director of the Sociology Master Program and one of the coordinators of the Thematic Section «Sociology of Tourism» of the Portuguese Sociological Association. He has been teaching Social Sciences and Sociological Theories since the 1990’s and is main field of research has been the Sociology of Racism and Ethnicity. Recently is research interests shifted towards the sociology of tourism, leisure and travel and he has been teaching Sociology of Tourism in the Sociology Programs of the University of Algarve.
