Associate researcher at the Centre for Social Studies (University of Coimbra). Holds a Master's degree in Sociology from the University of Trento (Italy). Completed a PhD in "Human Rights in Contemporary Societies" at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra with a thesis on the experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals with chronic illnesses in Italy and Portugal. In 2023, published "LGBT+ people with Chronic Illness: Chroniqueers in Southern Europe" (Palgrave). Her doctoral dissertation won the "Controtempo" award from the Codici Ricerca e Intervento Foundation (Milan) for the development of the "Chroniqueers" project (www.chroniqueers.it) and received an honorable mention for the "Virgínia Quaresma" Prize in Cultural Studies (Univ. of Aveiro). She has relevant experience as a trainer in accessible and inclusive communication, as well as communication in science. She is a member of the Research Group "Democracy, justice and human rights" and is part of the team of the project "REMEMBER - Experiences of Elderly LGBTQ People in Democratic Portugal (1974-2020)". Since 2024 she integrates the Editorial Committee of the Revista Crítica de Ciências Sociais. After being a post-doctoral researcher at CES in 2021, she has been a contracted researcher since 2022, having won the FCT Scientific Employment Stimulus Competition, a position she will hold until 2027. Currently, she is conducting research on access to healthcare services for the LGBTQ+ population in Portugal with the project "DIVERS - Diversity and Inclusion in Health Access," within the scope of CEEC-FCT (2022-2028) (www.projetodivers.com). She combines an interest in disability studies with queer/crip studies, through an intersectional approach and a specific focus on chronic illnesses. Her recent research interests include: medicalization; chronic illness and invisible disability; visibility; accessibility; sexualities in Southern Europe; LGBTQ+ health.
